High school-like proms for senior citizens are trending

People often ask us if trends are only for youngsters. Truth is, there are different trends for different demographics, geographics and psychographics and when we start to see something happening in a particular part of the world or within a certain age group, we want to let you know. Now, in towns across the US there is a trend for older people to hold proms, much like the ones they went to as teenagers. These events are informed by the high school events, include all the trappings like naming a king and queen, and often take place in high school gymnasiums. Often, they are organized by adults living in senior communities. In New Milford, New Jersey, for example, over 170 people recently attended a Senior Citizen Prom, which is now in its sixth year. Other senior proms have taken place in Forsyth County, Georgia, and Beachwood, Ohio where the event was organized by The Center for Senior Living. The first year of the New Milford event, woman crowned Prom Queen was wheeled her onto the dance floor in her wheelchair.
